Did you try to contact the bank? My guess is you got an account from them at some point and then never used it and they may actually have an open account for you. If the account is really there and open, then disputing the account won't do any good because it will just get verified and continue to show up on your report.

I just got back to this today. The account has a balance and current payments, so it isn't one that I opened and forgot about.

It was opened in 1991 and I haven't had any other problems with identy theft, so I'm thinking TransUnion is just screwed up about it. I'll try calling TU next Wednesday when I have time to sit on hold and see what a "real" person says. I did the dispute over the Internet.
