I have been having all sorts of problems with my discount brokerage, to which I was referred by Bank One, and am truly at the end of my rope. I would be so appreciative of any help in organizing a search for a new discount broker that anyone might be able to offer. On top of trying to keep an eye on my investments and assisting my family in its financial planning, I feel overwhelmed by the onslaught of advertising and other information. I don't know how to approach this search efficiently, much less anything about how complicated it might be to switch my account.I thought my broker would be convenient and offer good value because (1) it is a discount broker (HA!); (2) I can make deposits to my brokerage account at the bank (if the local branch office feels like taking my check that day -- yes, they have actually refused to take a deposit, forcing me to wait several days, then go downtown with checkbook in hand to a larger branch office to make my deposit); (3) my cash is swept into a money fund and earns "interest" while I wait to invest it (but the rates are nothing to brag about); (4) it also offers online trading (this is the biggest joke -- "in-depth" research on only 20 companies, customer service that to this day has completely ignored three e-mails from me that were sent well over a week ago, they botched my registration and I elected to cancel it, I am no longer confident that they are capable of keeping sensitive information strictly confidential and am genuinely afraid of identity theft. And for all this, they want $19.95 a trade!).Please forgive the length. It's after 2 a.m. and my frustration is great, and oh it has been well earned. What I would like is a discount broker with reasonable rates for broker-assisted trades, that is readily accessible, and that offers the option of on-line trading in which I can have confidence, as well as computer-savvy customer service reps who actually want to help. I'd also like a money fund for cash balances -- gee, the usual things! Does this exist? How best to comparison shop? I am so grateful for any help. Thanks in advance. S3. . .
