My wife and I are new Fool members and would greatly appreciate any advice you can give us on this issue. We are considering using the same realtor to sell our current home and then help us purchase a new one. Here are our initial questions to anyone that can help:

1. What (if any) discount should we expect from our realtor for handling both our sale and purchase?

2. What is a good rate (or division of commission) for the selling of one home and the purchase of another? Is there any way to negotiate this deal so that we incur less of a cost on the selling of the home (the part we are responsible for)? What we are thinking is that some realtors make take less to sell and demand more during the buying phase.

If anyone has some guidelines to go by it would help a lot as this will be our 2nd home and is very important to us that it is handled correctly and with good financial wisdom.
