Do you have records of your expenses? Use Schedule C to report income and expenses. Deduct anything related to your freelancing -- paper and other office supplies, phone calls, postage, etc.

You've got til April 15 to open IRAs for you and/or your husband. Yes, you have to shell out the $, but I'd rather pay this into my retirement account than to the IRS.

And examine your checkbook -- have you overlooked any contributions to charity? How about miscellaneous deductions such as your safety deposit box?
