Do you mind telling me how you go about building your collection?

I get mine at used book stores, thrift shops, yard sales, etc. Some I've gotten on eBay, but I don't do that so much any more because I can't see them and I've inadvertently bought books that are revisions of ones I already have.

I also collect cookbooks from that era and something really interesting happened once. When my mom moved from Massachusetts back to Maryland after my dad died, the church came to pick up her donations to the rummage sale the same day the movers came to pack up. The church accidently took her box of kitchen things, including all of her cookbooks. She didn't find this out until after the church had had their sale, so all was lost. Years later, I was in a thrift shop in the western part of the state and I bought an old cookbook. Flipping through it, I recognized my mother's handwriting in the margins as well as a few recipes slipped in between the pages. I had gotten one of her old cookbooks back!
