It used to be fun to watch the Yankees lose, now the Dodgers join that cast.

-- Just a few numbers to toss around: The Dodgers' payroll next season will exceed $225 million, the highest in baseball history. In seven months under new ownership, they have spent $650 million - and they won't wait long to make Clayton Kershaw (due for an extension) a very rich man. They gambled $62 million - combining the posting fee and the contract - on South Korean pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin, a veritable unknown. And their soon-to-be-finalized TV deal with Fox Sports is said to be worth at least $6 billion over the next 25 years.

-- Then again: Marco Scutaro. "The funny thing," one talent evaluator told, "is that I think the Giants are still the better team."
