Does anyone have any suggestions on how to convince him of this point? He has no cell, so that isn't a way to reach him.

How about trying to set up an agreement that there is one point of contact that knows how to reach him? Like, his mother or something. If something severe happens, you call his mother, not his whole family, and then MOM calls him, NOT YOU. But, agree on who you contact. Like the daycare and school have to have 2-3 emergency contacts on file? you do, too.

It sounds as though new wifey may think you intrude on their lives. (Even if you don't, she may think you do; perceptions, you know?)
