Does anyone know for certain if this is true? My local SS office doesn't even know, and when I wrote to Washington,DC, I only got a form letter back telling me how to figure out benefits based on income and contributions. Anyone out there tried to collect SS as a resident alien?

Hello,

fyi, I'm a U.S. citizen, so I do not have any first-hand experience on this issue.

I took a stroll over to the website of the U.S. Social Security Administration, and found some info that may be of use to you ...

SSA - Office of International Programs (includes a specific address at the bottom where you may write for further information.)This page includes info on 17 countries, including Canada ...
http://www.ssa.gov/international/inter_intro.html

SSA home page ...
http://www.ssa.gov

Hope this is of some help to you!
