Doesn't it only matter if you sell take the Dividend as cash? I don't think it matters if you're in a DRIP and are holding it.

I don't know how tax law views a DRIP, but I would think it might be the same as a straight dividend payment. With a DRIP, you're simply redirecting that payment to buy more shares so why would that create a tax shelter from the dividends tax?
