Don't know how this came out, but for everyone's general knowledge, I had a similar problem with CitiMortgage. Just about the same amount of money too. After two phone calls and one letter without a satisfactory response (money), I simply filed an action in small claims court. One week before the trail date, I received a phone call from a paralegal at CitiMortgage offering to settle for the full amount plus the ($35.00) filing fee.
As an additional note, CitiMortgage does not have any offices in my state (Washington), but they do have a registered agent, as they do business in my state. I served them by registered mail c/o their registered agent. Your Secretary of State, or your state's equivalent, should be able to tell you who the registered agent is if you need that info.
