Obama apparently has not leaned from Obamacare experience that the Republicans never negotiate in good faith. The two key ingredients of this negotiation are taxes and the debt limit. Obama doesn't need to negotiate these with the Republicans. there isn't a Republican in the country who has any respect for Obama. I don't need to go into the race/class issues playing out here. Obama needs to put his primary offers on the table and then continue to negotiate with the American people. The only thing the Republicans ever care about are the polls. If the American people don't support Obama the resulting agreement will be another nail in the coffin of the middle class. Obama needs to make sure the American people know that.
I agree with your Subject. That's why I wouldn't negotiate with Obama.
The two key ingredients of this negotiation are taxes and the debt limit. Obama doesn't need to negotiate these with the Republicans. Those are the key issues from the Democrats side. On the GOP side it's spending cuts. I suppose Obama can refuse to negotiate, but he'll take everyone over the cliff if he does. At least he'll have his tax increases on the rich along with everyone else. He'll need the additional short term revenue to deal with a tanking economy if that happens. Grape
I suppose Obama can refuse to negotiate, ___________He currently is. Boehner is still waiting to see those spending cuts that Obama claims to have proposed. Maybe one day Obama will actually do his job and hammer out a deal. Instead of running around the country and lying to the public.http://www.cnbc.com/id/1000201

At least he'll have his tax increases on the rich along with everyone else. He'll need the additional short term revenue to deal with a tanking economy if that happens. What's lost in all this is how the government actually functions.Obama isn't a king. He can't walk down to the treasury and dispenses pieces of gold at his leisure. CONGRESS holds the power of the purse. So when Obama asks for control over the nation's debt limit he should be laughed at. It's a complete non-starter that doesn't merit serious attention. That one is set aside. Where liberals and people who pretend to be Republicans have blown it is in recognizing what we're trying to accomplish here: long term stability from a financial point of view. There is no "winning" and "losing" this issue outside of the determination of whether or not the United States will be able to pay its bills and service its debt obligations.Obama can crow about winning all he wants but the bottom line is this: He's the damn President of the United States. Stop campaigning and show some leadership. That means stopping with the "proposals" that only close $80 billion/year out of a $1 trillion/year problem.
I'll bet that each and every person in Obama's corner on this issue feels as though the facts are completely on their side, that it's the other side that is not negotiating in good faith, and that if the other side would simply come to their senses, America would surely avoid thrusting itself into the dark abyss that surely lies over the precipice of the vaunted "fiscal cliff" that looms ominously in front of us all.I would bet the same dime in my pocket that those siding with Boehner feel exactly the same way.I wonder how many of them have considered the idea that monsters under the bed, Santa Clause and fiscal cliffs all have one thing in common...I mean, come on everyone. Aren't you sick and tired of this insipid bickering over something completely manufactured in the first place? It's cool if you're not. I'm just wondering.Personally I couldn't care less about the fisca...guh...I don't even want to use the term anymore, ever again. Anyway we'll all be striding along to the next thing these clowns make up for all of us to be distracted by and snipe each other about no matter which way it goes. I'm into that, so long as I never hear the term "f***** c****" ever again as long as I live ever ever.Ever.-GhostJam
