Interesting post, but let's consider a hypothetical. What if Dems knew Weiner was a lost cause, but wanted to salvage Huma, Hillary's young protege, using the wronged wife idea and placing on public display her inner emotional strength.

Huma is currently facing an investigation into her past as a State Dept employee simultaneously doing private business and/or as a board member of a private group. Media would have a field day with a hard investigation into a "wronged" wife. If successful, her professional reputation remains intact and then she runs for office. The second coming of Hillary or Hillary-Lite.

Far-fetched? Ask me 5 years ago and I'd say without doubt, but with who now runs the Dem party, nothing is outside the realm of possibility.
