<<I am thinking I would open Roth IRA account(s) using a separate discount broker (different from
the non ira account discount broker). This is so that I could get a good deal on IRA a/c from a broker that does not have other good services that I am looking for. Is this unFoolish to do?>>

Makes perfect sense. You're implying that your current DB does not have an attractive IRA package but you like their other offerings. Go for it, no need to consolidate every penny at 1 broker. You might find your new broker has some non-IRA services (i.e., research, etc.) that you don't currently have access to.

BTW, the Prof was correct: you can't mix 2 people's Individual Retirement Account money together.
