Due to recent changes in SEC regulations, it is actually illegal to disclose information like this in a preferrential manner. If he had leaked the information to your broker, he'd have been in serious trouble.

The real credibility issue was raised in another post. Why did the price start dropping BEFORE the announcement?

When you say "NT's shareholders deserve better than this", what is it you're asking for? Bad news is bad news, and should be reported to everyone at once, and not to the broker with the coziest relationship.
