Efin sad that the Def Sec has no clue who has control of Selective Service
Wiki is wonderful.
The Selective Service System is an independent federal agency within the Executive Branch of the Federal government of the United States. The Director of the Selective Service System reports directly to the President of the United States of America http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#Struct... The current director, Lawrence Romo, was appointed by Obama in 2009.
Fwiw, Even though the Secretary of Defense has decided to allow women in combat jobs, the law has not been changed to include this. Consequently, only men are currently required to register by law with Selective Service during ages 18 thru 25. Women still do not register. (January 24, 2013) http://www.sss.gov/default.htm
Btw, my draft classification is 5A. Otoh, I know a lot more than I did when I was 18, and I could still pass the physical to get into West Point.
