I am looking into purchasing an electric bike for my commute to work. It's only 5 km each way so I don't really need a long distance battery. I have used my mountain bike a few times, but the hassle of carrying a change of clothes and showering when I get there is too much for me. I tried out my brother's electric bike one and got there with no sweat and it was much more fun.

So now I'm looking into buying one for myself, but I'm overwhelmed by the huge amount of variety. There are no real "brand names" that I can see and most bikes look pretty much the same except for a few minor differences. I live in Israel so not sure if that makes a difference to what you may be seeing in the US. I'm having a hard time finding out what those 4-5 differentiating features and/or questions I should know to look for when choosing an electric bike.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

On another angle, I see that, here in Israel at least, every second or third bike is an electric one. I think it's a huge growth market and opportunity. Any investment play in this market?
