I'm looking for comments and suggestions when it comes to having an electric gate opener professionally installed. We'd like to expand our backyard by enclosing it with the gate opener. I've heard of two gate controller manufacturers: Elan and Ram. I've received quotes of about $2000 to $2600 for the controller. The sliding gate cost estimates have ranged from $100/ft to $80/ft. We've got a 25 ft wide driveway so estimates range from $3800 to $5100 for the whole project. Has anyone installed one before? What do we need to look out for? Is it a maintenance headache? Which brands are more reliable? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
