Emotion vs rationality: interesting topic.

Atheism is rational. I suppose someone could come to it emotionally (e.g. wife dies of cancer at age 30, hates and repudiates 'god' thereafter). But mostly it seems to result from a proper scientific education. The better educated people are the less prone they are to supernaturalism.

We have at least a few examples here of people who came to this board to get bonus heaven points by converting atheists only to find themselves de-converting when confronted with logic and evidence.

If you use your emotions it is easy to get sucked into the warm vacuum that is religion. I think it's the only way to overcome the dissonance with reality (just my opinion...I have no research to support that view). If you use reason and accept evidence you most likely will be atheist.
