What does everyone do when contemplating moves? Do you move the pieces on the board ahead of time to see possible future positions, or do you play as though it's "live", and only move your piece?

I'm guilty of playing out some varations on my current game, and my previous game with rinjr715. I looked at the FAQ that ps put out but couldn't find anything specific on moving the pieces. I did find notes on not playing out moves vs. a computer, which to me, is a sorta obvious no-no.

I'll forfeit my game with rinjr715 and my current game with cnfrost if they do not play variations out ahead of time (except in thought:).

I'll also not play out future moves anymore if no one does this. I should have known that playing moves out physically would not help my chess game much.
