Every plan is a negotiated deal between the employer and the custodian. Very large companies usually have plans with millions in assets. They get the best deals. Fees are often invisible to the employee.Small employers usually don't have much negotiating clout with the custodians. They often have plans that are more costly to the employee. Some of the higher fees they pay get passed on to the employee. So if you work for a small firm, be thankful you have a plan. To get a better plan, you will probably have to change jobs.
