I know there are a few here who use a web query to get data. Might I suggest you look into the Excel Add-in at

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=485FCCD8-9305-4535-B939-3BF0A740A9B1&displaylang=EN

I just found this recently and the ability to write the function...
=MSNStockQuote("IBM","Last Price","US")
or
=MSNStockQuote($A2,"Bid Price","US")

has greatly simplified my spreadsheet.

Just a point of clarification or specification: this add-in is, according to MSFT's site (the linke you so kindly provided) for Excel 2002 only......... sigh. Those of us with Excel 2000 or older will still have to get along with the older versions of this query, which is fine...... ;-)

I have Excel97 and it sets up data download from Data menu/Get External Data. I can't find the actual link to download but it comes from http://www.pcquote.com/. If this is what you have and it "doesn't work anymore" they have had some problems lately and I coulnd't get prices for days at a time. It is now working and has been for several days. When it was down I used the above link and clicked on each stock to get the same information but had to enter it manually. ed

Mario,

We did some group learning on Excel a while back at the Foolish Collective. I did a series of posts on queries you may find helpful. Using the MSN quotes is covered, as well as data from other sites.

Downloading virtually any data of interest, manipulating it, setting up a file structure for many individual stocks, and linking them to a master spreadsheet is covered.

The entire spreadsheet project is archived here:
