When I took early retirement I shopped around and settled on Reliance Insurance's Ultimate Choice Plan, a non-PPO plan with $1000 deductible. The coverage was quite good and the cost was reasonable, about mid-range of the plans I looked at. Since then Reliance Group, the parent company, has had major problems in its property and casualty line and will apparently be dissolved in an orderly manner. Meanwhile I've seen 30% increase in premiums for my health coverage.

I've recently looked at other health insurance plans again, but comparable coverage is much more than I'm paying now even after the increases. I've never had to file a claim with Reliance so I have no idea whether their customer service is still good.

I need full coverage for 9 more years before I get on Medicare and switch to a supplemental plan. Does anyone have recent experience with Reliance or know whether their health insurance will still be around after the dust settles?
