Extreme obesity is a relatively new phenomenon: perhaps 20 years in the making in the USA. I suppose we're about to see what happens to a body when it's abused by obesity for years and years. When processed foods, sugars, and carbohydrates are eaten in abundance for two decades.....

excellent point
we are still seeing the spike of lung cancer deaths from the past 40-50 years of smoking, even though smoking rates started declining 20 years or so ago

diabetes causes so many more problems that take decades to show up, we probably are completely unprepared

just the need for dialysis centers alone could cripple the system
