Do you remember my idea for a hooked rag rug? The plan is to make the rug out of old blue and white shirts and the reminants of my school uniform (whatever is left after I made some into patchwork years ago). I was hoping to find additional material (shirts) in thrift shops, which I'll cut into strips and hook into canvas. Well, yesterday, I struck gold.

DH and I went shopping yesterday; we'd been away for the night visiting friends and found an outlet mall on the way home. DH wanted some short-sleeved shirts so we wandered into a menswear shop. There on the rack was a 100% cotton shirt in the perfect fabric for my project: white background with pink and blue cross-hatched stripes. As a man's shirt, it was perfectly hideous!

It was £5. I can't buy shirt-weight cotton fabric for £5 a metre; this contains at least 1.5 metres, if not 2.

DH got me out of there before they refused to sell me the shirt because I want to cut it into strips.

- Pam (Now the proud owner of a hideous man's shirt)
