Fence your own yard and keep an eye on the kid.

Seriously - there is nothing else you can do. It's his land and he can do as he wishes.

There are naturally occuring ponds, creeks, and ditches around everywhere - these are also not fenced. The pond's proximity to you is not personal, it's merely coincidence.

We have a creek that runs right behind our property. When it's rain swollen, it could take me down with it, not to mention my two children. Our solution was to fence our yard.

The kids, if the wanted, could still walk around the fence from our front yard. There is nothing I can do about that besides tell them not to, and supervise them when they would have the opportunity to do so.
