Figure it both ways and file which ever way gets you the least net tax.Your tax preparer should do this for you - and tax software will calculate it either way for your comparison.Since you itemize and your wife does not, you MIGHT come out ahead by filing separately. I'm not sure what the rule on that is since my wife and I have always filed jointly.
