Figuring out what is healthy is not rocket science. The healthiest, most long-lived populations on the planet all share one common feature: they all eat a lot of vegetables, with little or no meat or refined sugars. Duh. Eat your vegetables.
Actually it is rocket science, there's still much research ongoing and much is unknown. And most of what you hear "dieticians" spouting has little basis in science. There's more religion in dieting, than in Religion.
Recent major study condemning red meat a case in point. It could not even say what it is exactly in in red meat is bad for you. Red is just a color. Oh, of course a hundred dieticians trumped out a hundred pet theories the next day. All unsupported by evidence, but who needs that boring stuff anyway.
Most vegetarians I know look pale and unhealthy. Contrast that with the magnificent Masai herders living on meat and blood. Or the pre-Westernized Eskimos who lived on whale blubber. So much for sweeping ethnic "duh" conclusions.
I would definitely not want the guv'mt telling me what to eat. They would push white bread, corn syrup and sugar down my throat to support General Mills, the corn growers and the sugar growers. Heck, they're already subsidizing these guys heavily, to our detriment.
