first of all - if you haven't already - JUMP UP AND DOWN and thank whomever you want for this excellent opportunity - you have a chance here to do what most people can't: whatever you want.

i've been looking to start an artist's collective here and chicago, so that i could fulfill my own dreams, while helping others to go after theirs as well - you could do something similar, and believe me, it is so much more fulfilling - if you can make a difference in people's lives, do it

you've gotten some excellent advise here, and i'm so glad you came to the motley fool for it - 6 months ago i had never been here, and i've learned SO MUCH that i kick myself for not starting sooner

OK-enough with the mushy lecture here

1-immediately start an IRA (you can still invest for the 2001 year up to April 15, 2002) and put in the maximum from here on out
2-put 100K into a diversified portofolio (you'll get a lot of advice here, some mix of stocks and bonds probably- say 80% VTSMX and 20% bonds)
3-put 50K in money market for emergencies
4-buy a good reliable car (Camry, or the like)
5-with the rest, start a charity or fund to help those less fortunate, and utilize your skills and talents to do this - as an art director, writer, poet, musician, etc. the collective would be my idea - do whatever you enjoy, and are good at

make a difference!
good luck,
peace,
wickerkat
