First off cooked clams and raw oysters have very different textures. Oysters are "phlegmy" but cooked clams are rather chewy and not "phlegmy".

I read online that members of the mollusc family are very high in Vitamin B12, and in fact have the highest B12 content of any meat. B12 is important in the production of hemoglobin and in fact the B12 molecule looks very similar to hemoglobin except for it has cobalt in the middle instead of iron. Just an interesting factoid.

I guess I just learned to eat seafood living in California and learned to love it. Eating shrimp and clams makes me feel like a rich person. They were very expensive and rare when I was growing up. Like a once a year thing. Sometimes when we go out to eat at a Chinese buffet and I'm busy snarfing vast quantities of shrimp and clams I can hardly believe how far I've come and how much my life has changed.

I don't want to feel rich that bad i guess. I don't distinguish between clams or oysters, both nasty......and don't get me started with calamari....hey! who wants to eat some tires!

okay I just spit on the paper laughing at that last line. LOL Yeah but you're supposed to feel more sophisticated by calling it calamari instead of squid/octopus....ugh! I can eat it and anything for that matter if it's all fried up.....but then I don't because of the higher calories of frying in oil. It has to be grilled, broiled or roasted. Or maybe a couple of pieces fried...small ones...real small.

If you have to cover it up in sauce, that's a big sign that it's awful. LOL
