I finally opened my roth and want to get started investing ASAP. I have been reading various Fools advice columns and stock advisor info etc., and am wondering what should my first purchase in my Roth IRA be? Should I just stick with an index fund Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSMX)until I have saved enough to start going the one-stock at a time way? Or should jump in from the get-go building my 10-18 stock portfolio? The problem being that that would leave me with an incredibly "overweight" portfolio for some time. How many initial stocks should I start with in one company anyways?

I guess I'm just wondering where to begin.
