First realize that a Roth IRA is a type of account and that there are at least a few different things you can put in it(Think of a fruit bowl with fruit in it. The bowl is the Roth IRA and the fruit is the actual investment), eg mutual funds, CDs, stocks, or bonds.

I'd suggest reading up in the Fool's School about your choices.
