Read through publication 529. You'll find that you are correct.

You also might want to read through the FAQ for this board. Of particular interest to the situation might be found under itemized deductions, education expenses.

I think the sum of the equation is: Until you are a licensed MD, you are not an MD, therefore no business expense deduction.
