For a long-term investor, you really can't go wrong with S&P500. You might not be at the front of the pack, but you won't ever find yourself at the back of the pack. It's a good and steady way to accumulate wealth. As for me, I've never understood the fascination with foreign funds or international funds. You can great a great deal of foreign and internation exposure via the S&P500. By the way, you're wasting your time by trying to convince a financial planner that going it alone is a smart move. They make their money by making sure you don't go it alone, and laughing at you must be one of their new tricks. Next time, just go to a movie.
