For me, in large part, it was a way to vent the anger I had inside but couldn't express safely.

That IS what the manifestation of a defense mechanism is all about.

Our ego defense tends to dig in, like in the anger of self righteous indignation, defending its point to the enth degree.

It works in that temporary mode, but pretty much is revealed to be the "wizard of Oz " that it is when push comes to shove.

Love is the finer way, I believe.
