...and its failure. And the big FU to the 12,000 union employees, and the 18,000 total employees on the payroll, thank you for your hatred of America.

Each job at a large company like Interstate Bakeries (aka Hostess) feeds 4 to 5 supporting jobs.

From the diner by the factories, to the dry cleaners, to the gas station attendant, to the suppliers who's truck drivers use to drive the flour to the factory, to the factory that made the flour, to the farmer that grew the wheat...

Oh - you didn't think about that, did you.

Yup, you're "celebrating" the loss of 80K to 100K American jobs - good paying jobs for hard working Americans, and many of them non-union and if you pulled your fool head out of your arse you would realize a lot of them RED STATE jobs in the farm belt in the food processing and food ingredient industry.

Yup - you are applauding Chen the dry cleaner losing his business, Kipchogee getting let go at the 7-11, the diner cutting back on a single mothers hours - and her getting less customers and tips to rub salt into the wound, and 23 hard working neighbors in Kansas, no longer working at the processing mill because not only did Interstate void their contract, but defaulted on over 90 days of payments. The mill is now having a hard time making payroll.

Let me give you the golf clap here - clap clap clap clap

Congrats on having such hatred for America.

We're doomed.

"...and its failure."

Yep, a failure of the Union to do its job i.e. representing the employees.

I read some interviews with some of the bakers union members. The older ones are upset because they don't see much opportunity for someone who is less than 5 years away from retirement. The younger ones seem to feel that the jobs weren't worth saving given the cuts they were being asked to take.

you would realize a lot of them RED STATE jobs in the farm belt in the food processing and food ingredient industry.

The void left in the market will be filled by something else, perhaps even the same products once the asset sale is complete. I personally neither celebrate nor mourn. Companies come and go all the time. It's part of the normal cycle.

Each job at a large company like Interstate Bakeries (aka Hostess) feeds 4 to 5 supporting jobs.

Oh - you didn't think about that, did you.

And what of the tens of thousands of high paying coal jobs killed off by Obama's environmental regulations? And what of the nearly ten thousand medical equipment jobs killed off by Obama's healthcare bill tax? And what of the tens to hundreds of thousands of employees who will face reductions in hours or worse layoffs as a result of Obama's healthcare mandate and employer penalties? And what of the thousands of other jobs that employers have been forced to eliminate or outsource due to greedy union demands (such as was the case in Hostess)? What of the 160,000 financial sector jobs eliminated this year in large part due to the oppressive and ineffective regulations like Dodd-Frank?

I've got bad news for you. Each of those jobs also feeds 4-5 supporting jobs, if not more. And your hero sitting in the oval office and his liberal cohort in Congress and government have been instrumental in destroying each and every one of them. Suddenly those 18,000 hostess jobs look like chump change.

So do tell us Mr. High and Mighty, what about all of those jobs? Oh, that's right: nothing about them, but crickets. But I'm sure all of the people standing in the unemployment line right now thanks to you and your liberal breatheren would have something to say.

MANAGEMENT failed again. Management agreed to the contract based on THEIR numbers. The union abided by that contract--management did not.

No, the left will move the Dems further left based upon this narrow win while the Tea party will double down to the right. By 2016 the 60% in the middle will be registered independent, the Democratic party left of Nader and Republican party right of any of the recent contenders.

I don't fault the company for shutting down, I fault the bakers union for being such hard headed idiots that they refused to accept a concessions package that every other union at Hostess, even the Teamsters, had accepted, thus flushing all their jobs down the crapper. Hell, in some places the other unions, including the Teamsters, were crossing the bakers' picket lines, and Teamsters NEVER do that, so that oughta tell you the bakers were wrong. I don't celebrate the loss of jobs, but I can't blame the company for folding their tents. I blame the bakers for their obstinacy and greed and their "hooray for me and eff you" attitude towards fellow union members who were willing to take cuts to save their jobs.

It is a shame what the left in this country has become. It truly is, they refuse the obvious questions. How can so many voting districts have had not a single ROmney vote
-how can Obama be trying to convince people that there is a campaign against Susan Rice? Really? C'mon even PA libs are not that stupid, there is a campaign against what she was told to say, please guys return to earth
-how can they not question the Benghazi situation being so full of dishonesty and the reasons and timing of a major player being slammed
-how can they not question that Democrats are ready to compromise when the President comes out and dictates compromise equals capitulation

Are you PA types really this bought out? Don't bother answering, as the question is rhetorical, but maybe one of you one day will consider you are sitting upon a heaping stinking pile of manure and claiming it is going to be flowers in the morning

And what of the tens of thousands of high paying coal jobs killed off by Obama's environmental regulations?

Just because you repeat a lie told on TV ads by the coal lobby and Crossroads GPS over and over again - it doesn't make it true.

The EIA puts out a comprehensive, detailed report on energy consumption in this country EVERY year. No way to fudge the data - you can go to previous years reports. The data goes back to 1840. Here is the current report.

http://www.eia.gov/totalenergy/data/annual/pdf/aer.pdf

I'll save you the time. Flip to page 218, it's in section seven - coal.

Now lets see here, production peaked in 2006, dropped a little in 2007, and matched its 2008 peak.

Consumption started a steady decline in 2005.

There it is. You can't deny it. It's in the data.

Now wait, why did US CONSUMPTION start going down in 2005???

Recession - no - no recession in 2005.

Obama environmental policies - no - no Obama as President.

George W. Bush signed the EPA Energy Act of 2005, which mandated the increase use and research for alternative fuels. Yup, George W. Bush.

If you look in that same report linked, section one, you'll see that alternative energy and biomass usage explodes starting in the BUSH Administration, and coal, which is mainly used for power consumption starts to drop in 2005.

Who lost those coal jobs?

Oh that's right - the TV says blame Obama. Golly gee, it must be true.

The GOP adores the ignorant - because the ignorant never, ever, ask, "why," or, "can I see some facts."

There you have it. The right says that $16.77/hour and a funded pension is too greedy.

Sadly it makes sense - the war on the middle class continues.

Autoworkers making $35 an hour with a funded pension were making too much. Now they make $17 an hour. They can't pay their bills or buy the cars they build (which was Henry Ford's model when he started Ford, that whacky socialist)

Now they're going after the $17 an hour bakers - maybe $10 an hour will be enough for the middle class.

Of course no one is questioning why the CEO tripled his salary and guarantees to $2.55 MILLION per YEAR while working on the bankruptcy filing.

Nope - nothing to see there.

Nor why the leadership agreed to the union contract in the first place.

Nor why leadership accepted a reorganization plan that included $700 MILLION in debt in 2009 as part of their emergence from their first bankruptcy in 2004 (the longest in US history) - talk about tying a stone around your neck out of the gate.

Oh no - leadership made all the right decisions...

How many of these warriors for the Middle Class...

Objected to NAFTA?

GATT

Permanent Normalized Trade Relations with China?

Many of these things passed under Clinton.

Where's the cries against rampant immigration that increases the supply of entry-level labor, thus lowering wage levels?

Yours truly was AGAINST ALL OF it. Chided for it by the Left there. (Since then I've gotten over it, LOLOLOLOLKOLO)

Where are the threads feeling sorrow for coal workers who lost jobs, or who can't get jobs?

Either way, 18,000 less taxpayers now.

18,000 more demands on the Federal Treasury.

Obama 2012

If questioning fmteade is protectionist then it's childish not to trade with Iran. You trade with china. China has more nukes and spies than Iran. So if u want to be so pure a free trader then go for it. Don't be protectionist with Iran

You are getting off track bringing up Iran and Syria. The US is not enforcing protectionist measure against these two countries. The US has an economic embargo.

And what of the tens of thousands of high paying coal jobs killed off by Obama's environmental regulations?

Coal jobs have been going mostly because of the massive increases in available natural gas due to increased production.

What of the 160,000 financial sector jobs eliminated this year in large part due to the oppressive and ineffective regulations like Dodd-Frank?

I suppose if there were job losses in the sector of narcotics trafficking, you would complain about that as well?
The financial has grown bloated and parasitical. OF COURSE it is losing jobs in the aftermath of the credit bubble. That is the way it must be.
In fact, for the health of the overall economy, it is vital to ensure that it shrinks even more.

Beyond a certain percentage of the workforce, additional finance jobs are actively harmful to the country.

I think it's better to have the best and brightest of each generation designing cars, writing software and curing cancer rather than dreaming up innovative ideas how to get Americans deeper into debt, siphon enormous fees from investors, dress up balance sheets and blow up the economy.

But hey, it seems that conservatives have a different position on that issue.

I am with JediGALT on this one, believing that globalization and free trade lift the rest of the world while America slumps a bit. The only saving grace I see is the ability for our corporations to do business in these countries.

I predict America will go back to making their own stuff in 50-100 years.

cool. I congratulate you just liek other Libs, deciding what jobs are worthy and what are not.

In this case I could care less, because like I said these Liberals will get punished. It's good by me.

As far as the finance sector, here's to Timmy Geithner and every other Liberal who rotates between Wall Street, Think tanks, and Treasury.

They're gonna get you people AGAIN. They got you once good, now they're back for seconds.

Wait till Obama shuts down smaller banks.

The big boys will have fun then!

Ok, now you can return to deciding what professions are worthy and what not.

Here's to the other small businesses and jobs that will lose out after those 160,000 people are canned.

More fun!

Obama 2012

Hi Para....

Don't count on it.

Republicans are now religious on this issue. You can't bring it up without being called "protectionist".

Democrats love working with other nations and building middle classes in other nations, so it's no coincidence that they've been onboard with NAFTA, GATT and PNTR China.

And of course, both Establishment parties are owned by multinationals and Wall Street.

And finally, yes, tomorrow's Americans are raised more as 'citizens of the world' instead of jingoisitc ignorant fat redneck Americans. So, frankly, they really don't care if America loses and other nations win as a result.

So here's the good news Para!!!!

Eventually, global workers will see their wages raise to 8 bucks an hour.

And Americans will see their wages go down to 8-10 bucks an hour.

LOL. Companies might even send jobs to America due to poor cheap labor.

It's a done deal. No turning back now.

(And, let's see if our inteligentsia in academics respects manufacturing. They speak glowingly about I.T, engineering, etc etc etc....but do they glorify the coal worker, the car builder, construction worker, etc? NO. On a different thread, Diaboli called for people to embrace jobs like curing cancer. Well that's great but not everyone has the brain or money for that. Too bad the academics don't put manufacturing on the same pedastal)

Interesting shopping for mattresses nowadays. Taken over by the big Cabal. Try to find a Queen mattress that is actually 60" by 80". Profits are stabilizing, upward. Competition is mostly marketing, the little guys are doing what they can. Mergers have run rampant, and the Value quotient is practically zero. This was the result of many being bought up in the dark days by big capital.

Jedi, when exactly did you realize wages were headed downward? When exactly did you realize nobody valued the manufacturing workers? This is not something new, the transformation began in earnest in the 80's, and had only brief pauses. This wasn't just the result of free trade agreements and the global economy. It would have happened in a more protectionist society as well.

Many companies have long pocketed the differences in pay scale and manufacturing costs, never to pass them on. But that's business. You can look at the auto industry, most any other industry, the middle class has no power. Unfortunately, I think they viewed their power as the vote. So be it. I have yet to see either party do anything for the small guy, except to plan for their demise. Many complained openly about how much US workers made, how big their pensions were, complaints about everything. About the only sacred cows left are police and fire departments, and that's next on the list.

HMA....

You can look at my DECADE plus of posts....

One consistent you'll find is that I was always dead set against things like NAFTA, WTO, and Permanent Normalized Trade Relations with China.

Ditto rampant immigration that increased the supply of unskilled labor.

I've been saying wages are headed downward for 10 years. Long term TMF'ers on both sides would attest to it. Ask Hochizen or Dovbaer or Milligram (left wingers!).

Good to see you HMA, hope you are well.

JediG

PS: Your evaluation on both parties is right on. As someone who has voted for 3rd party Presidential candidates 2 out of 5 elections, I agree with you.
