Four years ago DS and I took the Disney Adventures tour to Australia. This zoo just across the bay from the opera house was a several hour excursion. It was delightful and, yes, one could pet the kangaroos.http://taronga.org.au/taronga-zoo/visitor-informationLess exciting tours included a bike ride around the harbor area - darting in and out of crowds.Oh and be near the water at sunset to see the flight of thousands (millions?) of fruit bats from the opera house to destinations across the bay...it was amazing! I believe we were in a park with a view of the harbor bridge, the opera house, and the other side of the bridge.Yeah, it was Disney, but as DH declined to come along and we had little time to plan - it was ideal for a mom and 16YO son. One could use their tours as a guidebook to perhaps little-known excursions...tho they do get access where others cannot.Teri
