Frankly I find it hard to take the chest thumping and whoa is me seriously from a nation that doesn't have a national sales tax, doesn't have a national gas tax, has amoung the lowest and least progressive income tax rates in the developed world and by far the most expensive military budget in the world. Seems to me there is lots of room for movement there but that's just me.


Well, you're right on three out of five claims (assuming you were talking about the US).

Petroleum is taxed heavily at the national level, with extra national taxes specifically on the portion used for diesel- and gasoline-powered vehicles on public roads.

There are few developed nations where the richest 5% pay MORE of the total income tax revenue, or the poorest 50% pay LESS, than in the US.

Oh, by the way, the opposite of "whoa" is "giddy-up". Perhaps the word you want is "woe". ;-)
