from #4192 of 7/5/98:

". . . At the moment I am most anxious to roll over the retirement account which is still with my previous employer. I am looking for suggestions. I would like to roll over a portion of the money into an index fund and the balance in individual stocks. . . ."

As my alias suggests, I am "about there" and do intend to leave my fedgov job, in about a year. In browsing past postings to this board, I came on yours. My IRA is now a Rollover, from a defense contractor, for which I worked for a few years, some time ago. It is with Fidelity. Fidelity now has a brokerage IRA option which would allow you to do just what you have asked -- I think. My wife and I have a non-IRA Fidelity brokerage account for a small sum of money, and the online access to trades, etc. for both accounts is very welcome. My guess is there are other investment companies with the same options.
