From January 2001 through March there's a Soviet film retrospective at a theatre local to me, including the following films:
The Letter Never Sent (1959)(Mikhail Kaltozov director)

Heat (1963) (Larissa Shepitko Director)

The First Teacher (1965) (Andrei Konchalovsky Director)

and also Goodbye, Boys (1964) (Mikhail Kalik)

Nine Days of One Year (1961) (Mikhail Romm)

Hamlet (1964) (Grigory Kozintsev)

July Rain (1966) (Marlen Khutsiev)

Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors (1964) (Sergei Paradjanov)

No Ford in the Fire (1967) (Gleb Panfilov)

I caught the silent Soviet film Aelita, Queen of Mars (1924) at a concert hall screening. Wacky fun.

My fave foreign films so far are:
Diva, Zazie Dans le Metro, L'Age D'Or, Heavenly Creatures, Cinema Paradiso, Ran, La Dolce Vita and Tampopo.

I want to see: A Nous La Liberte, L'Atalante, Wings of Desire and Forgotten Silver (Peter Jackson film from New Zealand -- sometimes foreign films in English are okay too!).
