From reading the examples that followed the exception you noted in Pub 527, I interpret this to mean that your living in the house from Feb 1999 to Dec 1999 will not qualify toward the 2 out of 5 year occupancy test for excluding $250,000 capital gain ($500,000 MFJ) on the home. Can one of the TMF gurus confirm this? Pub 527 seems one of the most confusing to me.
