Jesse Jackson, Jr. plea deal likely to include resignation, jail time
www.cbsnews.com/8301-34222_162-57548177/jesse-jackson-jr-ple...
Just days after winning a handy reelection to his Chicago-area district, 17-year Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., D-Ill., has entered negotiations for a plea deal that would include his resignation from Congress and likely jail time.

Jackson, Jr., the son of civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr., and husband to Chicago Alderman Sandi Jackson, has not yet pleaded guilty to alleged misuse of campaign funds to decorate his house and purchase a $40,000 Rolex watch for a female friend. But CBS Chicago reports the congressman's lawyer, white-collar criminal defense attorney Dan Webb, is negotiating with the federal government a plea bargain that will likely be reached by year's end.

The tentative deal includes Jackson, Jr.'s resignation from Congress for health reasons, a "guilty" plea involving misuse of campaign funds, and repayment of any contributions that were converted to personal use. At least some jail time is expected. Jackson, Jr.'s pension, which would pay out between $65,000 and $80,000 a year when he turns 62, is also part of the talks.

There'll be a special election next year. All part of the Chicago way, I guess. Jackson originally won the House seat he holds in a special election after Mel Reynolds was convicted of sexual assault, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography (and later bank fraud).

Same old Chicago same old. And yet, even though we all know Chicago is the world capital of Democratic crookedness, we go and elect a Democrat from Chicago to the White House. How can we be so stupid?

Looks more Repub than Dem to me. In fact, the current governor of every state on the list is a Repub.

Steve, I said "world capital of Democratic crookedness", not "world capital of crookedness". I am sure you can find plenty of crooked Pubs, outside as well as inside of the 8 states you mention, if you look hard enough. But I was referring to Obama being from Chicago, where it is well known by all Americans that all the Democratic politicians are crooked as dogs' hind legs. So with it being so well known that Chicago pols are universally crooked, why on earth are we voters stupid enough to elect one to the highest office in the land? Even if people wanted a Democrat, why did they have to pick Obama?

Pretty broad brush there. If it holds true for Chicago Alderman, does it necessarily hold for members of the legislature in Springfield?

Amazingly, Arkansas is not on the list of "8 worst", but Clinton spent his entire two terms defending himself against various corruption charges.

So where are the formal investigations and charges against Obama? The best the political hacks can do is question his birth and religon?

I doubt Obummer's religion. I don't much give a rat's rear end about his birth. And yes, everybody who isn't completely stupid does know all Dem pols in Chicago are crooked. You cannot get elected there without being crooked. It's the system out there.

Don't you think that is a bit backwards?

The Constitution requires the POTUS to be native born, but the Constitution forbids any sort of religous test as qualification for office.

Article Six of the United States Constitution

...no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_Six_of_the_United_State...

Chew on this. We hear every pol end his oath of office with "so help me God". The text of the oath is in the Constitution.

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:--''I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.''

http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data/constitution/article02/

No "God" thing.
