This election cycle the polls have pretty stable all summer and into fall. That's a bit odd on the face of bit, because you'd expect given the economy and such Obama is in a weak position. Obama has a small, but consistent lead in the popular vote, and a convincing lead in the electoral college. Unless there is some big unexpected game changing event, Obama has this thing in the bag, and had it in the bag months ago.

Now, the wingnuts are having problems wrapping their heads around this fact. They can't understand why the public won't embrace a wooden, flip-floping, out of touch plutocrat, who now disavows his own biggest policy achievement (RomneyCare), and has a secret tax plan. What's not to like about that?

Anyway, the wingnut conclusion is not to examine issues that might be important to the American people and find out they are on the wrong side of many of them. The wingnut conclusion is to shoot the messenger! Specifically, there is a conspiracy among pollsters to falsely report poll data (from Glenn Beck's site):

These over-samplings serve a few purposes but mainly drive down enthusiasm for Republicans while assisting the Obama campaign with “bandwagon” supporters who simply like being on the winning team (they’re real and they count)...

...That is the what and why pollsters are doing the massive Democrat over-sampling this election cycle.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/this-graph-shows-why-obama-i...

Then I noticed today on the "Best Of" that conspiracy theory goes even farther. There are secret polls (available only to people who read chain emails) that show Romney cleaning Obama's clock!

To: Berlin_Freeper
I was talking to a friend that works for the Romney campaign and she told me that Romney's internal polling shows him up over 15%.

Obama and the MSM knows this and that's why they are pushing these fake MSM polls, to try and discourage Romney voters.

http://boards.fool.com/man-i-hope-this-is-true-30274966.aspx...

And if you follow the link to the Free Republic they discuss other secret polls that show big leads for Romney. Get it? The polls we can see are fake, but the ones we can't see are real.

Anyway, I just posted that as an update on the insanity of the wingnut community. Btw, no need to rec this post.

It's always best to crow about your election victory before the votes are counted. After the election you may be eating the crow.

I might be, but I'm willing to stick by what I said up above:

"Unless there is some big unexpected game changing event, Obama has this thing in the bag."

The reason is simple math. In order to win the electoral college vote, Romney needs the "safe" red states plus he needs to win Florida AND Ohio, AND at least two to three other swing states, like Virginia, Colorado, Iowa and/or Nevada. I'm assuming he wins North Carolina, but that's not a given.

In order for Obama to win, he needs to win the the "safe" blue states and Florida. Or he could win even if he lost Florida by taking safe blue states plus Ohio and one to two other swing states.

Right now, Obama is leading is Florida and Ohio and most other swing states, like Virginia, Colorado, Iowa and Nevada.

It is just hard to come up with a realistic scenario where Romney wins. There could be a conspiracy among the MSM and polling organizations to present false data, in that case my scenario doesn't work. But like I say, I'm limiting myself to realistic scenarios.

I live in western Iowa. Just moved across the river from Omaha. There has not been a pro Romney ad on TV in I don't know how many weeks.

Does that mean he thinks he has it locked or is like Pennsylvania where he decided he was wasting his time?

Get it? The polls we can see are fake, but the ones we can't see are real.

It's like Mitt's tax returns. You can't seem them, but he'll tell you what they say as long as you don't ask to actually look at them.

It's a continuing theme: "I have a plan to balance the budget by eliminating loopholes, but I won't tell you which ones, you just have to trust me."

"I have a secret plan to get rid of illegal immigration, but it doesn't involve deporting people. However I won't give you the details, you just have to trust me."

"I'm going to improve the economy by "encouraging business", but I won't tell you how, you just have to trust me."

The amazing thing is that there are dupes out there who are saying "Sounds good to me. Where do I sign?"

Not sure what his ground strategy is. The Iowa polls are a bit mixed, but leaning Obama. I suspect based on what you said that Romney's internal polls--which are more sophisticated than what the public gets to see--show that Iowa is not in play and he's chosen to move to resources to other states.

It would be interesting to see what he thinks his path to victory is.

He released his 2011 return.

He gave many times more the charity than Obama...and only wrote off a portion of it.....

4 million to charity.

Obama? just a piddling amount. BIden? Next to nothing. Rounded off to nothing really.....

SO, the arab world is going up in smoke, the economy is stagnating, Obama is putting more folks on food stamps than he is creating jobs....more people on SS Disability than he is creating jobs....which means he is putting twice as many on welfare weenie status as compared to 'working for a living' status.

He deserves to have his butt kicked all the way to HI come November

That's probably true, but the Republicans nominated a pathological liar to be their candidate. I can see why that trait appeals to you, but to the rest of the public not so much.

telegraph boasts,

You do realize that the Mittster can file an amended tax return in November after he loses election and claim his full tax deduction.

Heck, as two-faced as he is, he'd probably even do it in the unlikely event he wins.

I'll bet intercst takes all the tax deductions and credits he can get as a matter of routine.

I certainly do.

SP"I'll bet intercst takes all the tax deductions and credits he can get as a matter of routine."

----

It's going to be fun to watch intercst write a check for nearly 100% more in taxes when Baracki raises the cap gains rate to 28%

LEt's see...that will be two or three less cruises a year for him.

His 'aftertax' portfolio value will shrink by another 20%......(what he would have if he had to liquidate it next year

Just think how many welfare weenies and queenies his new tax contributions will support under big government for all Baracki?

(probably just one or two....but heck, if we can get everyone one like intercst to support 2 welfare weenies....you could raise the percentage of welfare weenies up to 70% of the population, with the other 30% of working and retired with nice nest eggs supporting them all!

Then wait till Baracki's and Fauxcahontas Warren, Hairy Reid, and Stretch Pelosi put in a Value Added Tax of 20% on intercsts 'luxury' cruises...maybe 25% for the 'luxury' category!

He'll be down to cruising on the $1 Staten Island Ferry!

Oh, I don't think so.

Actually, I think intercst would do well dating a model as described in the opening post of the thread. He could be the person who is the solid anchor and help manage the chaotic life of an exotic model as described in that thread, and get 1st Class upgrades when he's jetting about the world.

That would be a pretty fair deal.

Intercst has always struck me as being a very decent guy and a gentleman. A model could do a lot worse, and most probably do.

I moved from "Toney" West Omaha (If Mitt Romney lived here, he'd live in West "O") to Council Bluffs. (A much more Ralph Kramden town with some Ward Cleaver neighborhoods). I can see downtown Omaha UP CLOSE just leaving my "compound". I never saw those tall buildings the whole 15 yrs I lived in Omaha except from a cab on my way to the airport or Amtrak station.

intrecst:"I've taken that cruise. It's been free since 1997 (they eliminated the fare)"

I rode it when it was a nickel.....a bit more than a postage stamp at the time...

with the high price union and ridiculous union work rules on fare collection, number of fare collectors/ferry rider, levels of supervision, pensions, vacations, etc - they probably found they couldn't charge enough to pay all the salaries, so they laid the folks off...and came out ahead by not charging anything...
