Hi fool!
I am a 26 year old Fool who is a buy and hold type.

A year ago, I started a Roth IRA account and allocated my funds to the Legg Mason Value Fund. Although I am satisfied with the fund's performance thus far, I was thinking of converting my IRA to a self directed IRA and buying individual stocks to hold for the very long term. Stocks such as AOL, MSFT, CSCO, C, etc.

My concern with the Legg Mason Value Fund is the high admin fees of 1.6%.

Besides, not having to pay the 1.6% fee, are there advantages to having a self directed IRA as opposed to a traditional mutual fund IRA?

In addition to my IRA, I have an individual brokerage account and a company sponsored 401K which I max out annually.

Any advice or thoughts are greatly appreciated.
