I've picked up the Chase Shell Mastercard and the GE Capital Exxon cards for their generous, simple rebate programs. Both give 2-3% gasoline credit rebates on purchases from their own outlets, and 1% rebates on all other purchases.

The Chase Shell one maxes out at $70 worth of rebate annually, then it drops back to 1% on Shell purchases only, the Exxon one gives you 3%-1% rebates all year. You get to collect your rebate the very next month after you earn it, it comes right off any gas purchase you've made.

Great for folks like me who drive a company vehicle and are reimbursed for gas. 3% back on gas purchases and 1% on all else, I use it for just about everything, leave the $ in my high interest bearing checking account and simply pay the balances in full after the thirty day grace period. Since I got them in last December I've $73 of free gas from Shell and $50 of gas from Exxon. If you already are using a card for incidentals and pay off your balances in full monthly, and buy gasoline anyway, it's an effortless way to get a free lunch!
