Well, the time is nearing. 1poorkid graduates this month. She is planning the University of Arizona for pre-med. A respectable choice, even if I wish she had looked out of state more.

Tomorrow I have to call Vanguard and find out how to handle her 529. I opened it, but I have no idea how to make it available to her (or if that's somehow automatic). It's not a fortune in there, but it definitely will help. I think it's almost doubled since I opened it.

She was awarded a merit scholarship that almost covers tuition (I can make up the difference easily). Books and living expenses are still extra/more. I will help her as much as I reasonably can. She apparently has qualified for two student loans. One is direct unsubsidized federal, and the other is direct parent PLUS. I have advised her to confirm both of them. She need not take any money from either, but it's good to have them in case the need does arise. It appears the unsubsidized has better terms.

Even as an in-state student the costs are absurd. Literally 9x what I paid 25 years ago. I won't get political on this board, but we really need to do something. If 1poorlady and I didn't have engineering-level jobs 1poorkid would be in a world of hurt to pay for all this.
