"Cemex SAB, the largest cement maker in the Americas, posted a fourth-quarter loss as construction waned worldwide, eroding sales in its four largest markets.

Cemex’s loss narrowed to $209.5 million, or 22 cents per U.S. share, from a loss of $706.8 million, or 91 cents, a year earlier, the Monterrey, Mexico-based company said yesterday in a statement. Sales dropped 17 percent to $3.44 billion.

“Cemex’s core markets suggest no turnaround yet in construction activity in spite of consistent signs of improving macroeconomic performance,” Vanessa Quiroga, an analyst with Credit Suisse Group AG in Mexico City, wrote in a Jan. 12 report. "
