All the hooey about 'global warming' is just that...hot air coming out of Washington, by the neo-Libs

It's all about control, and the neo-Libs don't like capitalism....that lets private industry control your income and money...and the neo-Libs want to control your income (everyone bssically the same - hey, we can't reward those 'corporate executives' who make 'record profits' while employing 'record numbers of people' and doint 'record busines'....). Gotta insure that they only get a few times the lowest salary of anyone, so we have 'income equality').....

Sure, we can have 'free healthcare', just like Sweden...and you'll pay 70% of your income in taxes to support it just like in Sweden...where capitalism is essentially dead, and the companies there expand overseas as fast as possible to get away from the Swedish economy and Swedish workers and Swedish tax laws......

But in Sweden, and most of Europe, you also work at leat 40 years (not retireing early) to be able to collect your government pension..no private ones...gotta make sure everyone gets the same in retirement....at age 65, or 67, and likely climbing to age 70 here shortly as their pension systems are stressed to the limit by too many 'retiring workers'..... You don't work your 40 years, and tough..no pension....no slacking off.....

No retiring early...doesn't happen.....almost no one can accumulate enough assets to do it...unles you are Abba.....or Alfred Nobel.....everyone else is too busy supproting all the other pensioners and all the free healthcare for everyone...till they actually reach retirement age specified BY THE GOVERNMENT...

That is the neo-Lib agenda....control the corporations through laws and tax consifcation, control the people through long employment and very high taxes...to give them 'free healthcare' and retirement benefits at age 70 or 72 in the future.....

The big hype isn't going to do much constructive..and in fact may do more harm than good..

Europe's fascination with palm oil (to make bio diesel) , now the darling of EU, has had a lot of unintended consequences...

In Malaysia and Indonesia, according to big article today in Financial Times, they are draining peat bogs, then BURNING THE PEAT, to be able to plant more palm oil plants!.......slash and burn, putting out more CO2 (carbon) trapped in the peat than will EVER be saved by all the palm oil grown on those lands..happening all over...

Suddenly, all those efforts to be green in a hurry are sending up a couple million, yes, million tons of CO2 into the air from burning major deposits of peat!...... to simply get rid of them!...

The law of unintended consequences always comes back to haunt you....and sometimes the cure is worse than the imagined disease

If anyone asks me if I like global warming, I say 'absolutely'....I grew up in Northern NJ, which was under a glacier at the edge of it 10,000 years ago..... went to college in upstate NY, which probably had a mile of ice on it only 10,000 years ago.....spent time in Chicago, which I'm sure wasn't so nice 10,000 years ago....

Sure glad we've had warming since then!...

People are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, still bleating 'the sky is falling...the sky is falling....'....

this is what is really going on !

did you accidentally post this to the wrong board?

I tried to figure out what it had to do with early retirement, and then I decided that Telegraph had just decided to join the ranks of the trolls. I.e. post something here just in the hopes it will irritate us, not for anything resembling actual discussion.

That put him in my penalty box, at long last.

p.s. I have no clue what a "neo-lib" is, but I'm pretty much 100% certain that everyone on this board like capitalism just fine. How many socialists want to talk about early retirement, after all?

one can dislike capitalism, think socialism would be better system, and still be into early retirement if living in a capitalist country ....

None..and neither does Hillary....you don't retire early....

To pay for all the 'free', and the comparions of UK and Sweden, you have to be like them with 70% tax rates, and no pensions till you work at least 40 years, and hit 65 or 68 and soon to be 70......

All that free healthcare just keeps you able to work until retirement.

No 40 years? tough..no pension...

"one can dislike capitalism, think socialism would be better system, and still be into early retirement if living in a capitalist country ...."

Huh? if you think socialism is better, then get used to NO early retirement..you need to work work work as long as required to pay for all the services provided.....

The neo-Libs want to confiscate 'excess profits' at Exxon - but forget about the drug companies at the same time, who make DOUBLE the profit per dollar of revenue...same for MSFT....double the profit per dollar of revenue.....

So if they go after 'executive salaries', and 'exess profits' and the formation of 'capital', and rewards for taking risk.....you'll get your slow economy.....slow inovation....and of course, companies in China and India without that restriction will clean the clock of US companies....

No early retirement in socialist environment. You think they retire at age 55 in Cuba??? Heck, you got to spend your 4-6 weeks on the farm each year bringing in the harvest!....manual work.... till you drop dead.... but free healthcare to keep you able to work!.....

I've always wished I could grow oranges, lemons and limes here in Seattle. My wish may yet be granted.

Unfortunately, I suppose I'd have to give up the pears, apples and fresh apple cider I make now. I'd miss the apple cider, a lot. It's really good stuff.

Doesn't this at least deserve an "OFF TOPIC" header?

Blah blah blah...

Now back to actual discussion of retirement issues...

You mean that table 1 here is wrong?
http://www.bls.gov/opub/mlr/1998/08/art2full.pdf
It shows retirement age statistics for Sweden, the USA, Germany, and japan. Very little difference. Of course, these are averages, medians, or first quartile. Sweden, Germany, and Japan could be considered a bit socialist, wouldn't you say?

Add to the retirement statistics the much larger vacation benefits enjoyed by Germany and Sweden (can't speak for Japan), and I say we work much longer.

And, I must observe that the other three countries have pretty well cleaned the USA's clock, wouldn't you say? Balance of payments, and the like?

You spout a bunch of libertarian clap trap sometimes, my friend.

telegraph, I think you meant to post that here:

Unless your intent was purely to try to rile up this board with anti-liberal rhetoric. You wouldn't do that to us, would you?
