Going for the largest # of punds lost -- rather than some health-related objective -- seems like it will encourage more of this. I also wonder whether contestants load up before the start, so they have the possibility to lose more pounds in the end. We did a biggest loser contest @ work one year and did it more as a % of starting weight. That meant the 300lbs guy competing against the tiny 150lbs woman had a more even playing field.When some women claim that they "went from a size 22 to a size 8 and lost 40 lbs" then I wonder how much of that was loaded on quickly and mainly around the middle...
