Going part-time is a great way to ease into retirement. However, sometimes it's hard to do. At the age of 48, my husband told his boss that he wanted to reduce his hours to 30 per week - the least he could work and still get benefits, and he wrote a letter to this effect. Although his boss is a good guy, he thought my husband was pulling his leg and didn't put in the paper work. It took some convincing that my husband really meant it. Two weeks ago, my husband announced he wanted to work on a contract basis so he could work fewer hours, and work when needed rather than sit around when there was no work. This time the paper work went like clockwork. I guess some old dogs do learn new tricks.arrete
