In what could be the surest and saddest sign yet that we're sitting on a gold bubble, I present the following: http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/gold-rush-alaska/.

Your eyes do not deceive. That's a reality TV show about gold mining. Now, more than ever, it pays to recall the old JP Morgan anecdote: He bailed on the stock market when his shoe shine boy gave him stock quotes.

This is sad, in its own right. And I don't mean that in a patronizing, tongue-in-cheek way. When a bunch of people in dire financial straits decided to risk health and their financial fortunes mining gold in Alaska, and Discovery chooses to make a reality TV show about it, you can be pretty sure the market for gold's reached fever pitch.

As if the "Cash for Gold" envelopes and 2am informercials weren't indication enough.
